Rental Terms and Conditions
These terms are binding on the rental provider, Korppivuori Adventures / XTR Media, and on the customer (hereinafter the renter) who, through a written, electronic or verbal agreement, rents equipment for their own use or for the use of their group from the rental provider.
The renter makes a booking via the online booking calendar (korppivuori.fi), and the rental provider confirms the booking by email and/or phone. The renter must be of legal age when making a booking. A minor child or young person may only use the equipment in the presence of the renter. If the renter is renting equipment that will also be used by other members of the same group, the renter must ensure that these individuals are familiar with and capable of the correct and safe use of the equipment. The renter must confirm their identity to the rental provider upon request.
Renting canoes, kayaks and other watercraft requires familiarity with the specific location, paddling experience and the ability to swim. Renting outdoor equipment requires the renter to be familiar with its use and operation, either based on prior experience or by following the provided instructions and guidelines.
A daily rental period begins between 10:00 and 13:00. Rental times that differ from this can be arranged separately, and the rental provider may charge an additional fee for these. Shorter periods, such as an evening or day rental, are agreed either separately or through the designated booking calendar.
Rental periods at the Varkaantaipale location begin and end within the opening hours of the summer restaurant, or at separately agreed times. Please check the opening hours before making a booking:
https://varkaantaipale.fi/ and/or https://www.facebook.com/varkaantaipale/
The agreed rental fee must be paid in full before the equipment is collected and/or handed over by the rental provider. Payment can be made in advance by bank transfer, cash or debit card. Epassi, Edenred and Smartum sports benefit cards are also accepted as payment methods.
An advance payment of 50% of the total rental fee may be charged for a booking, which must be paid in accordance with the rental provider's instructions. If the advance payment is not made, the booking will be cancelled.
Further arrangements regarding payments and how they are made can be agreed upon separately between the rental provider and the renter.
Cancellations and Termination
For day/hourly rentals (not overnight), the renter must cancel at least 2 days (48 hours) before the start of the rental, and for overnight rentals, at least 7 days before the start of the rental. If a booking is cancelled later than the deadlines stated above, the advance payment will not be refunded, and/or if no advance payment has been made, the renter is obligated to pay 50% of the rental fee. For no-show bookings that are not cancelled, the renter is obligated to pay the full rental period price.
Booking transfer due to weather conditions. If weather conditions at the time of the booking start pose a risk to the renter's safety — such as a storm or strong winds — the booking may be extended from the end, provided that the equipment in question is available for the transfer.
Cancellation for a well-justified reason also entitles the renter to a refund of the advance payment or part of it. Valid reasons include, for example, illness, accident, mobility restrictions, etc. Upon request, the renter must provide documentation, such as a medical certificate, confirming the reason for the cancellation.
The rental provider reserves the right to cancel a booking before it begins or to terminate it during the rental period if it becomes apparent that the renter has insufficient skills and knowledge, posing a risk of harm to themselves or others. The same applies if the rental provider has reason to suspect that the equipment is being misused, handled carelessly, or will not be returned. If the rental provider cancels the booking for the above reasons, the advance payment will not be refunded. The rental provider also has the right to decline to confirm a booking if any of the above concerns arise.
If the rental provider terminates an already ongoing rental, the renter is obligated to return the equipment to the rental provider without delay. When the rental provider terminates the rental agreement, the renter is obligated to pay for the actual rental period used.
If the renter does not collect their reserved equipment at the agreed time and cannot be reached within a reasonable time after the agreed rental start time, the rental provider is not obligated to keep the equipment reserved for the renter.
If reserved equipment is unavailable due to damage or non-return, the rental provider will endeavour to arrange replacement equivalent equipment within a reasonable time. If the rental provider is unable to arrange replacement equipment, the paid rental fee will be refunded to the renter. The rental provider is obligated to inform and notify the renter of any changes immediately upon becoming aware of them. The advance payment will not be refunded if the renter cancels the booking due to an equipment change or replacement equipment. The rental provider is not obligated to reimburse the renter for any costs incurred (such as travel, accommodation, etc.) if the renter does not accept the replacement equipment or the rental provider is unable to obtain it.
Collection and Return
The renter must collect the equipment at the agreed time from the agreed location. Equipment can be delivered to an agreed location, and equipment may also be left for collection, secured as agreed. The primary aim is to deliver and/or hand over the equipment to the renter in person. If the rental provider is unable to be present for the handover, the renter will receive instructions on where to collect the equipment and how to unlock it.
The renter must return the equipment by the end of the rental period to the agreed location. If the rental provider or their representative is not personally present to receive the equipment, the renter must ensure it is secured according to the instructions.
Returned equipment must be immediately ready for use by the next renter. The renter is obligated to reimburse the rental provider for any costs incurred due to cleaning and/or maintenance that has been left undone.
If the renter finds themselves in a situation where, for a valid reason — such as an accident or dangerous weather conditions — the return cannot be made by the agreed time, the rental provider must be contacted immediately to agree on how to proceed.
If the renter does not return the equipment to the agreed location by the agreed time, the renter must pay the rental provider at least the standard single-day rental rate for each commenced day of delay. If the renter leaves the equipment anywhere other than the agreed location, the renter must compensate the rental provider for collection and transportation at a rate of €25 + €0.75/km.
Returning equipment before the end of the agreed rental period does not obligate the rental provider to refund the paid rental fee, or any part of it.
Equipment that is not returned will be reported to the police.
Use and Care of Equipment
The renter must be familiar with the equipment and how it works. The equipment available for rental is intended for normal consumer use; however, for watercraft, canoes and kayaks, the renter must have sufficient skills and knowledge for their safe use.
The renter is obligated to take care of the rented equipment as a careful person would their own. The renter agrees to use the equipment only in the manner for which it is intended. The renter must be aware of the general safety guidelines related to outdoor activities and paddling, as well as the recommended use of the equipment. Equipment must not be used contrary to general guidelines — for example, a canoe must not be towed by a motorised boat, and a stove must not be used inside a tent unless specifically permitted.
Equipment must not be lent or passed on to third parties, nor left unlocked and accessible without supervision or immediate presence. Taking watercraft onto whitewater routes must be agreed separately with the rental provider. Equipment must not be taken out of Finland without a separate agreement.
The renter must immediately report any faults or damage to the equipment that are not the result of normal wear and tear. Theft of equipment must also be reported to the police.
The renter is personally responsible for the safety and wellbeing of themselves and all other members of their group when using the rented equipment and/or when passing it on to other members of the group. The rental provider is responsible for handing over only equipment that is in good condition and fit for use. Life jackets must always be worn when using watercraft — either the renter's own or those provided by the rental provider. If minors are using or travelling in the watercraft alongside the renter, the renter must ensure that each minor has a sufficiently safe buoyancy aid or rescue vest.
Renter's Liability for Equipment
The renter is obligated to compensate for any damage to or breakage of equipment during the rental period that results from causes other than normal wear and tear, such as negligence and/or intentional misuse, or use contrary to the equipment's guidelines. Likewise, the renter is obligated to compensate for any equipment that is lost or misplaced, at the original purchase price. The renter is also responsible for any damage to equipment or loss of equipment caused by other members of their group.
Rental Provider's Responsibility for Equipment
The rental provider takes care of and is committed to ensuring that the equipment is in normal, safe working condition at the time of handover. The rental provider will deliver the equipment by the agreed time, at the agreed location and in the agreed manner.
The rental provider is obligated to provide advice and guidance on the use of equipment when asked.
